Putnam County Elementary School’s Pickleball Club is Off to an Amazing Start! We’re thrilled to kick off the inaugural year of the PCES Pickleball Club! Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have been bringing the energy—and the skills—every week after school. Whether students bring their own paddles from home or use the school’s equipment, they’re jumping right in and learning fast! Through pickleball, our kids are building hand‑eye coordination, sharpening reaction time, and developing quick, confident footwork that can help them in all kinds of sports and activities. We love seeing their excitement, teamwork, and growth each week. Stay tuned—there’s so much more fun to come from this awesome group of young athletes!

Putnam County Charter School System is excited to announce Dr. Carletha Pearson as the new principal of Putnam County Primary School!

Dr. Pearson joins us after serving the past four years as a principal in Clark County Schools. She will step into the role at PCPS following the leadership of Dr. Fanicia Rogers, who has served as principal since 2018.

Yesterday, PCPS teachers and staff had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Pearson for the first time and beginning to welcome her into the PCPS family.

Although Dr. Pearson officially begins her tenure as principal on July 1, she will start transitioning into the role as early as next week, dedicating time to connect with staff members and learn more about the school community.

We are thrilled for the PCCSS community to experience her leadership, energy, and commitment to student success as we continue to inspire, innovate, and excel.

Today, 220 Putnam County High School students in grades 10–12 participated in an impactful presentation titled ā€œSmart Choices, Bright Futures: Opioids and Your Brain.ā€ Nurse Educator Jessica Swymer, MSN, RNC—an Eatonton resident from Putnam General Hospital—shared valuable information about how opioids affect brain chemistry and the link between emotional health and addiction.

She also equipped students with practical tools and healthy strategies for managing stress. The session wrapped up with a thoughtful Q&A. A special thank‑you to senior Coreyona Farley for recording the presentation so parents and community members will be able to view it on our school website.

Putnam County Middle School’s Agriculture program is excited to welcome three adorable new rabbits to the classroom! These sweet additions will play an important role in hands‑on learning, giving students the opportunity to practice proper animal handling techniques, develop skills in small animal care, and deepen their understanding of animal biology. Beyond academics, the rabbits will also help teach responsibility, compassion, and respect for living creatures—values that stay with students long after they leave the classroom.

We are grateful to Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor Ms. Coyte and PCMS Principal Macklin for helping bring these new classroom companions to PCMS, and we can’t wait for everyone to meet them and hear their names soon!

It’s Read Across America Week! šŸ“š

To help kick off this special celebration, several members of our Central Office staff from the Board of Education visited Putnam County Primary School to read to our Head Start and Pre‑K classes. Our youngest learners loved listening to stories and sharing in the joy of reading!

Read Across America is a nationwide initiative that encourages children to discover the magic of books and develop a lifelong love of reading. Moments like these—where students hear stories read aloud, ask questions, and make connections—help build early literacy skills and spark imagination.

We are proud to support literacy from the very beginning and grateful to our staff for taking the time to make this week extra special for our students. šŸ“–

Putnam County High School’s Robert Thomas, serving as the Georgia 4‑H State Board President, had the incredible honor of addressing both the Georgia Senate and the Georgia House of Representatives during Georgia 4‑H Day at the Capitol last week in Atlanta. Representing more than 190,000 Georgia 4‑H members, Robert spoke to state leaders about youth leadership, personal growth, and the importance of discovering one’s ā€œspark.ā€

While at the Capitol, Robert was recognized by legislators and met with several state leaders, highlighting the meaningful impact of 4‑H youth leadership across Georgia.

We are extremely proud of Robert for representing Putnam County with excellence on such an important stage.
