Putnam County Charter School System is excited to announce Dr. Carletha Pearson as the new principal of Putnam County Primary School!

Dr. Pearson joins us after serving the past four years as a principal in Clark County Schools. She will step into the role at PCPS following the leadership of Dr. Fanicia Rogers, who has served as principal since 2018.

Yesterday, PCPS teachers and staff had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Pearson for the first time and beginning to welcome her into the PCPS family.

Although Dr. Pearson officially begins her tenure as principal on July 1, she will start transitioning into the role as early as next week, dedicating time to connect with staff members and learn more about the school community.

We are thrilled for the PCCSS community to experience her leadership, energy, and commitment to student success as we continue to inspire, innovate, and excel.

Today, 220 Putnam County High School students in grades 10–12 participated in an impactful presentation titled “Smart Choices, Bright Futures: Opioids and Your Brain.” Nurse Educator Jessica Swymer, MSN, RNC—an Eatonton resident from Putnam General Hospital—shared valuable information about how opioids affect brain chemistry and the link between emotional health and addiction.

She also equipped students with practical tools and healthy strategies for managing stress. The session wrapped up with a thoughtful Q&A. A special thank‑you to senior Coreyona Farley for recording the presentation so parents and community members will be able to view it on our school website.

Putnam County Middle School’s Agriculture program is excited to welcome three adorable new rabbits to the classroom! These sweet additions will play an important role in hands‑on learning, giving students the opportunity to practice proper animal handling techniques, develop skills in small animal care, and deepen their understanding of animal biology. Beyond academics, the rabbits will also help teach responsibility, compassion, and respect for living creatures—values that stay with students long after they leave the classroom.

We are grateful to Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor Ms. Coyte and PCMS Principal Macklin for helping bring these new classroom companions to PCMS, and we can’t wait for everyone to meet them and hear their names soon!

It’s Read Across America Week! 📚

To help kick off this special celebration, several members of our Central Office staff from the Board of Education visited Putnam County Primary School to read to our Head Start and Pre‑K classes. Our youngest learners loved listening to stories and sharing in the joy of reading!

Read Across America is a nationwide initiative that encourages children to discover the magic of books and develop a lifelong love of reading. Moments like these—where students hear stories read aloud, ask questions, and make connections—help build early literacy skills and spark imagination.

We are proud to support literacy from the very beginning and grateful to our staff for taking the time to make this week extra special for our students. 📖

Celebrating Black History Month at Putnam County High School!

Our PCHS Service Leadership class had the honor of hosting a Black-Owned Business Expo on campus today! Local entrepreneurs were invited to share their stories, inspire our students, and showcase the incredible impact Black-owned businesses have in our community.

This event was designed to promote and support local businesses while giving students a meaningful opportunity to learn directly from business owners. Students walked from booth to booth, asking questions about each owner’s journey, challenges, successes, and the wisdom they’ve gained along the way.

It was truly inspiring to watch our students engaged, curious, and motivated by real-life examples of leadership, resilience, and innovation. A huge thank you to the business owners who invested their time, energy, and experiences into our students. Your voices made a lasting impact!

Today, PCHS Work-Based Learning hosted our 4th Annual Mock Interview Fair, and we are thrilled to share that this year’s event was our largest yet! To view all the pictures from today, please visit our District Facebook page.

A total of 256 students—including CTAE juniors and seniors along with senior English students—had the opportunity to participate in real-world interview experiences. More than 20 local businesses and community partners generously volunteered their time to provide meaningful, professional feedback to help our students grow.

Events like this build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and prepare students for future careers and post-secondary paths. By working with real community professionals, students gain insight into expectations, workplace readiness, and the power of first impressions—key tools for their future success.

We are incredibly grateful for the teamwork that made today possible. Thank you to our Putnam County High School staff, the College & Career Academy Board members, and our amazing community partners for investing in our students and empowering them to shine. Together, we are building a stronger future for Putnam County!

Our PCHS students had the extraordinary opportunity to take part in a Masterclass led by none other than the legendary Doreen Ketchens, the “Queen of New Orleans Jazz.” 🎶 Visit our District Facebook page to view all the pictures from this amazing experience.

This wasn’t just a musical workshop—it was a truly educational, inspirational, and once‑in‑a‑lifetime experience. Our high school musicians were able to learn up close from a world‑renowned artist whose passion, talent, and energy filled the room and left a lasting impact on everyone present.

Mrs. Ketchens has performed on some of the world’s greatest stages—concert halls, music festivals, U.S. embassies—and has shared her gift with four U.S. Presidents. For decades, she’s been a celebrated staple of the French Quarter’s Royal Street Performing Arts Zone with her band, Doreen’s Jazz New Orleans. To have her here, guiding and inspiring our students, was truly an honor.

We extend our deepest gratitude to OPAS – Oconee Performing Arts Society for making this enriching experience possible. Their continued support of the PCHS Fine Arts Program provides our students with meaningful access to masterclasses, artists, and unique performance opportunities that elevate their education in powerful ways.

• TRAFFIC UPDATE FOR PCHS FAMILIES •

Based on new information from GDOT, the following traffic changes will be in place for tomorrow morning, February 19, 2026:

• All vehicles exiting PCHS must turn RIGHT when leaving campus.
• Coming from Madison, LEFT turns into the PCHS campus WILL NOT be permitted.

These temporary changes are due to ongoing construction on Highway 441. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation as we work to keep our students, families, and staff safe.

This should not affect afternoon traffic; however, please plan for possible delays if you are attending tomorrow’s Georgia High School Regional Playoffs.

TRAFFIC UPDATE FOR PCHS FAMILIES
Back in November, Mr. Randall Harman visited Dr. Mortimer’s U.S. History classes at Putnam County High School and spoke about the courage and sacrifice of the Freedom Riders. He donated eighteen copies of Buses Are Coming by the late Charles Person and invited students to read the text and submit an essay for a $1000 scholarship. Six students rose to Mr. Harman's challenge. They engaged the text, examined the legacy of the movement, and submitted historical writing that honored the struggle for civil rights while thoughtfully reflecting on challenges we face in our own time.

Impressed by the depth of thought and historical care, Mr. Harman expanded his commitment from three $1,000 scholarships to six after our War Eagles truly impressed him with the sophistication of their writing, and their demonstrable engagement with Mr. Person's memoir. Among the six students recognized today were Lily Schwartz, Coreyona Farley, Kellsey Ortega, Braxton Sestak, and Emma Johnson. This event reminds us of what is possible when a community comes together to lift the next generation during Black History Month and every month of the year.

Congratulations to these amazing War Eagles!
