Putnam County War Eagles have landed in the United Republic of Tanzania, and their African journey is officially underway!

Eleven teachers and students from Putnam County High School departed on the lived learning experience of a lifetime on Sunday and arrived safely after a flight that spanned two oceans, three continents, and eight thousand miles! Over the next ten days, they will be learning alongside Tanzanian communities, visiting schools, exploring local culture, experiencing new landscapes, and sharing what they discover along the way.

Follow along for updates as students share their experiences—from what they saw and who they met to what they’re bringing home to Putnam County. There are journeys that change a student’s sense of what is possible. This Tanzania experience invites our students to step into the wider world with courage, humility, joy, and open hearts.

Thank you to the Putnam Education Foundation, our War Eagles experienced this trip at no cost—gaining opportunities that inspire growth, leadership, and big dreams

Eighteen of our rising 9th graders recently had an unforgettable, hands-on experience at LaGrange College—stepping into college life by staying in dorms, dining on campus, and attending classes in art, creative writing, filmmaking, and exercise science.

Their experience extended beyond campus as they explored career pathways at LaGrange Airport, met pilots and mechanics, and even had the chance to take off and land a plane in a flight simulator—definitely a highlight!

Students also deepened their learning through visits to local museums and wrapped up the week with a fun trip to Great Wolf Lodge before showcasing their powerful film essay projects, each reflecting a unique and meaningful perspective.

This incredible experience concluded with a special luncheon alongside college leadership, our Superintendent, and community partners, marking the beginning of what we hope will be a lasting partnership. We are so proud of these students and grateful to everyone who made this opportunity possible!

Week 2 of PCCSS Summer Inspiration Camps was FULL of fun, creativity, and hands-on learning! ā˜€ļø

From making a splash with swimming lessons and cooling off on slip & water slides to whipping up sweet treats and delicious pizzas in the kitchen, our students stayed busy all week long! They explored gardens, picking fresh fruits and vegetables, engineered robots, built incredible LEGO creations, and even took their first steps toward entrepreneurship by developing their own business plans.

The energy didn’t stop there, our campers also hit the gym for basketball, baseball, and volleyball, all while enjoying tons of imaginative, creative play with friends! We love seeing our students learning, growing, and having so much FUN this summer. We can’t wait to see what Week 3 brings!

The Oxford Summer Experience is designed to help Putnam County High School students grow both academically and socially as they prepare for life beyond high school. Through this program, students have the opportunity to explore STEAM subjects alongside the outstanding faculty at Oxford College of Emory University. For one week, students get a true taste of college life—living in dorms, dining in the cafeteria, and gaining valuable insight into topics like admissions, time management, and financial literacy. *Check out the District's Facebook page for more videos and pictures from our student's week at Oxford!

Throughout the week, they participate in engaging classes and activities such as computer technology, creative writing, science labs, and community service projects, among many others. The experience culminates with a special presentation day, where parents and PCCSS administrators are invited to Oxford to see all that students have accomplished.

At its heart, this program fosters lasting connections between university faculty, PCHS staff, students, and their families. We are #PutnamProud to partner with Oxford College of Emory University each year to offer such a meaningful experience—and we’re already looking forward to next summer!
