I’m Rebekah Esau, and I teach Service Leadership at Putnam County High School.

Future Service Leadership students just hit the grant jackpot as we were awarded funding for THREE projects:
“Show Up & Show Out” (our alumni + community showcase)
“Level Up the Look” (from everyday service to professional representation: tees, polos, and dress shirts)
“Built to Last” (organization & storage)

Basically, we’re getting organized, looking professional, and celebrating the people who helped build this program.
I’m excited because these initiatives strengthen the foundation of Service Leadership and equip students with the tools, confidence, and opportunities to lead with purpose.
The goal is to develop students who not only serve, but understand their impact, use their voice effectively, and carry those skills beyond high school.
Huge thank you to Putnam Education Foundation for believing in our students and investing in work that matters!

Congratulations to our April H.E.A.R.T. Award Winners! ❤️ At last night’s Board of Education meeting, we had the honor of recognizing two outstanding members of our PCCSS family — Mrs. Tracy Surmelin, one of our dedicated Facilities Maintenance Specialists, and Mr. Larry Dunn from our Putnam County Primary School Guest Services Department! These two incredible individuals go above and beyond in their roles each and every day. Whether it’s keeping our schools running smoothly behind the scenes or creating a welcoming environment for everyone who walks through our doors, they truly exemplify what it means to serve with heart. Their commitment, positivity, and willingness to support others make a lasting impact across our district. We are so proud to celebrate Mrs. Surmelin and Mr. Dunn for their hard work and dedication. Thank you both for all you do and for representing the very best of the PCCSS family! ❤️ #PutnamProud

Alumni Spotlight at Putnam County High School! 🦅

We were excited to welcome back PCHS Class of 2008 alumna Thomaesa B. Bailey to Putnam County High School last week! Ms. Bailey is an accomplished attorney, social worker, political strategist, and public policy expert with over 12 years of experience in politics. Her work has led to successful changes in the law at every level of government—from the city level in Detroit, to the state level here in Georgia, and even at the federal level in Washington, D.C.

During her visit, Ms. Bailey participated in a meet‑and‑greet with our students, where she shared her personal journey and encouraged them to believe that their zip code does not define their future. Students were highly engaged and asked thoughtful questions as they learned firsthand what’s possible through hard work, determination, and purpose.

She concluded her visit with a tour of our CTAE classrooms and labs, seeing how PCHS is preparing students for life after high school and future career success. Thank you, Ms. Bailey, for coming back to inspire the next generation of Putnam County leaders! 💙

Yesterday, Putnam County High School students participating in the Fox Gives All‑Access Pass program had the incredible opportunity to see what truly makes the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta come alive during their Fox Theatre Shadowing Day!

Students met and spoke with 28 Fox Theatre professionals, learning firsthand what their jobs involve and how each role contributes to the success of a Fox performance. From ticket sales and marketing, to culinary and concessions, to backstage production and on‑stage operations, our students were able to experience it all! To see all the pictures from yesterday's All-Access Shadowing Day at the Fox, please visit the PCCSS district Facebook page and stay tuned for a Putnam Pieces Videocast episode about it soon!

The Fox Gives All‑Access Pass offers high school students hands‑on exposure to the wide range of careers that bring live entertainment to life. Through workshops, mentorships, and behind‑the‑scenes access, participants connect directly with industry experts across tech, design, performance, management, and more. It’s real‑world learning, real career exploration, and real inspiration—showing students that a career in the arts isn’t just one role, but an entire world of possibilities.

Putnam County High School’s Service Leadership class had the incredible opportunity to visit W&A Engineering yesterday for one of their most special annual trips.

Our students heard from engineers, interns, surveyors, project managers, HR, the CFO, and even shared lunch with CEO/Owner Jon Williams. As a leading multi-disciplinary engineering and infrastructure firm serving communities across the Southeast, W&A is known not only for the scale and excellence of its work, but also for its strong investment in nonprofit partnerships, employee volunteerism, and community outreach.

We are deeply grateful they continue to open their doors and pour into our students through this elite annual experience.
