Putnam County Charter School System

PARENT MENTOR

What is a parent mentor?

Receiving specialized training and driven by personal experience, Parent Mentors are hired by school systems with the purpose of assisting and providing support and information to parents/legal guardians of students with disabilities. By collaborating with parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff, Parent Mentors build a bridge, connecting all parties and creating a more open dialogue, resulting in more successful outcomes for students with disabilities.

Additionally, Parent Mentors connect parents/legal guardians of students with disabilities with their communities, assisting in finding resources and groups outside of the educational sector.

Parent Mentors provide parents/legal guardians with information about transition planning, agencies that support individuals with disabilities, Medicaid waivers, special education issues, support groups, disability funding resources, community resources, and other information related to disabilities and special education.

If you are a parent or legal guardian, who have questions, concerns, and/or are in need of support, you are welcomed to call or email.
