Homeless Liaison
Notification of Rights under the McKinney-Vento Act
 
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act is designed to address the problems that homeless children and youth have faced in enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school.

If your family lives in one of the following situations:
1. In a shelter, motel, vehicle or campground
2. On the street
3. In an abandoned building, trailer, or other inadequate accommodations, or
4. Doubled up with friends or relatives because of a lack of affordable housing

Then the school aged children in your family have a right to:
1. Go to school no matter where they live or how long they have lived there
2. Continue in the school they attended before the family became homeless, if that is the parent’s choice and it is feasible
3. Receive transportation to the school they attended before your family became homeless
4. Participate in school programs with children who are not homeless
5. Enroll in school without giving a permanent address
6. Enroll and attend classes while the school arranges for the transfer of any records or documents required for enrollment
7. Receive the same special programs and services as all other children

Right to Know Professional Qualifications of Teachers and Paraprofessionals

In compliance with the requirements of the Every Students Succeeds Act, the Putnam County Charter School System would like to inform you that you may request information about the professional qualifications of your student’s teacher(s) and/ or paraprofessional(s). The following information may be requested:


 

  • Whether the student’s teacher—
  • has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;
  • is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and
  • is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.
  • Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

Title I Programs
Title I, Part A is a part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This Act provides federal funds through the Georgia Department of Education to school districts and public schools with high numbers or percentages of poor children to help ensure that all children meet challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards.  

School districts target the Title I, Part A funds they receive to public schools with the highest percentages of children from low-income families. These funds may be used for children from preschool aged to high school. Title I, Part A is designed to support State and local school reform efforts tied to challenging State academic standards in order to reinforce and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students. Title I, Part A programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support parental involvement.    

Under Title I, Part A school districts are required to provide services for eligible private school students, as well as eligible public school students. These services must be developed in consultation with officials of the private schools. The Title I services provided by the school district for private school participants are designed to meet their educational needs and supplement the educational services provided by the private school.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
