Dear Parents and Supporters:

As Head Start Director, I am honored to welcome you and your child to the Putnam County Head Start Family. It is our charge, with your support, to prepare your child to become more creative, ambitious, eager to learn, and become productive members of society.

Head Start was founded by Lady Bird Johnson, wife of former President Lyndon B. Johnson, as part of “The War on Poverty”. The mission of Head Start is “to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and their families”.

The Head Start Program, with the Putnam County Board of Education as its grantee, is committed to the mission of Head Start and also to excellence in education. Because of our efforts, the progress made by our students, and the support of Head Start parents, our Head Start Program has been recognized and honored for its selection as a model program for the State of Georgia.

Therefore, I urge you to become an active member of our parent groups and/or our family council which is the decision making body of the organization. This council is comprised of Head Start parents and members of the community.

You are your child’s first teacher and I strongly encourage each of you to become an active participant in your child’s education. Therefore, as director, I welcome your ideas, suggestions, participation and volunteer services for our programs. Together, we can give your child a HEAD START.
