PCMS Grant RecipientMrs. Gloria Hood is a Donor’s Choose Grant Recipient
Mrs. Gloria Hood is a recent recipient of a Donor’s Choose Grant. Mrs. G. Hood submitted a grant request to Donor’s Choose.org on January 30th, 2012. Her grant titled “Light a Fire” was written for $500 worth of various colored paper, glue sticks, markers, and post-it-notes. Mrs. G. Hood’s grant was fully funded on 3/25/2012 by one single donor from New York. Mr. Scott Duncan funded Mrs. G. Hood’s grant because he believes strongly in math education.
Mrs. G. Hood uses these materials in her math class to help her students create foldables of various math concepts and standards based on the Outstanding Math Guide, which is aligned to the Georgia Performance Standards. The foldables are a quick way to organize, display and arrange information, making it easier for students to grasp math concepts and master skills. The foldables also immerse students in vocabulary and concepts, providing them with a strong foundation that they can build upon. “Using the math foldables is a great way to engage the students.” (G. Hood).
PCMS Musical ConcertA night of music...
Under direction of Mr. Brian Avery, Band Instructor at PCMS, students use orchestra instruments awarded from a grant Avery recieved earlier this year. Students gave excellent performances from all four groups during the musical event which included several ensembles and soloists.
The Putnam Middle School Instrumental Ensemble classes provide progressive development of instrumental performance skills from 6th through 8th grade. In these courses, students will learn to read and play concert ensemble and solo arrangements of popular and traditional music. They will learn necessary practice techniques and discipline as they progressively hone their individual and group performance abilities. Band & Instumental Ensemble Instructor: Mr. Brian Avery
